A cat is trying to prevent me from writing this right now. During their waking hours, a cat is an all-consuming bundle of love that demands your complete attention. They are the rock stars of the domesticated pet world and always know when your focus isn’t 100% on them. To ensure they have your undivided attention they will either pull down your curtains (rock stars) or make themselves so irresistible that it's impossible to concentrate on anything else. Think how many books you would've read, hours of sleep you would've had, and uninterrupted trips to the toilet you would've made if not for your furry, four-legged frenemy. But most cat owners will say the struggle was worth it. Do you relate to these hilarious photos documenting the complex relationship between feline and human?

1. The domestic cat spend between 16 and 20 hours sleeping per day.

2. Cats are one of North America’s most popular pets with over 30% of households in North America own a cat.

3. A cat rubs against people not only to be affectionate but also to mark out its territory with scent glands around its face. This is how it recognizes its human family.

4. A cat’s brain is biologically more similar to a human brain than it is to a dog’s. Both humans and cats have identical regions in their brains that are responsible for emotions.

6. Isaac Newton invented the cat flap by cutting a hole in the wall of his Cambridge rooms so his cats could come and go as they pleased and not interrupt his work.
